The 5 best and worst ROBLOX Updates (as of December, 2014)

Welcome to the first to RoGomas article! Merry RoGomas!

I’ve been on ROBLOX for a while, since November 18, 2008. I have nostalgia of my ROBLOXian past, but I still really enjoy modern ROBLOX. Why else would I be here, writing this article today for you? Anyway, today I’m going to talk about my personal favorite and most disliked ROBLOX Updates, as of December 2014.

DISCLAIMER:

This is my own personal opinion. You don’t have to agree with it. Always feel free to leave your own opinions down below in the comments.

NOTE:

The order of 1-5 is going from my absolute favorite/most disliked (1) to least (5).

Best

1. Guis

I love Guis. They’ve changed ROBLOX in so many ways. You can have personal interfaces, controllers, and so much more. ROBLOX has even expanded Guis to be put on bricks (Surface Guis), and floating above a brick (Billboard Guis). I cannot think of one ROBLOX game without any Guis, since they have an incredible amount of uses.

2. Groups

Groups are really great too. They allow for a bunch of users to be organized in one place, and they serve many functions. It’s RoGo’s way of sending out messages and communicating with our wonderful readers! We, the staff, of course have our own private group for private discussions. Do not enter. c:

3. Dynamic Lighting

Dynamic Lighting is simply beautiful. It can create hyper-realistic atmospheres and incredible structuring, and allows developers to make tools that use light, such as a flashlight. Dynamic Lighting has changed how ROBLOX looks forever.

4. Audio

Audio has so many great purposes in games. They can add great effect, and just bring a game to life in general. Even though it costs 100 Robux per upload, and you only are allowed to upload 2 minutes worth, it’s still a really nice feature. Audio brings meaning and emotion into the games, and always will. It’s even rumored that ROBLOX may remove the 100 Robux price tag of uploading!

5. The Catalog (in general)

Believe it or not, but in ROBLOX’s early times, you had no character customization except for body colors and T-Shirts. The Catalog allows you to buy things to make your character look (almost) how you want it! Without it, players would look just bland.

Looks like I captured this at the right moment.

Worst

1. Price Floors

I think everyone can agree on this being the absolute worst ROBLOX Update. It makes purchasing clothing really unfair for the poor part of the ROBLOX community. Sure, it rewards clothing makers better, but it also encourages copying. Any ROBLOX user can create a T-Shirt, so even though those are cheap(ish), they can still be copied by anyone. This may be the reason creating Shirts and Pants is BC Only.

2. BC Only Games

This was nearly just as bad as the Price Floors. Almost nobody likes this update. It just encourages people to look at ROBLOX as a non-free game, and besides that, the games in that section are ALWAYS the same. Scams for admin, quizzes, and other stupidity.

3. 30% (and 90%) Sales Tax

The increasing of the sales tax in the ROBLOX Catalog caused major uproar for a while. It rewarded creators of clothing and games much less. If you have only known it to be 30%, then let me tell you what it originally was: 10%!!! And on top of that, even though free users can sell game related things now, they only get 10% of the normal 70% profit. This applies to all income parts of a game (with the exception of Mobile Ads): Paid Access, Game Passes, and Developer Products. I feel bad for free users.

4. Removal of user meshes

If you don’t know what a mesh is, it’s basically what’s used to make those custom shapes that cannot be made with ROBLOX parts, such as hats and packages. In the past, any ROBLOX user could upload a mesh to implement into their games and for others to use. However, this feature was removed in 2011, and all custom meshes were deleted. If you want an example of a custom mesh, try searching for an old gun model in the Library.

5. The new physics

They’re so glitchy, it’s frustrating. I often find myself playing a very complex and dynamic game that would be really enjoyable, if it weren’t for the fact that the ROBLOX physics now-a-days are bad. A weapon will send you flying, fall apart, and more. Yeah, it’s really annoying. That’s all I can say.

Of course, ROBLOX will only stop updating once the game has disappeared. But when it will shutdown is another topic that will be brought up in (hopefully) the far future.
