The Developer Team that created ‘Dungeon Delver‘ is on the loose again, this time creating an over-the-top shooter known as ‘BLOXOUT.’ After meeting two developers in-game, I got the chance to ask them their roles. Gl0in2‘s job is to script, while Gl0in‘s is to create maps. The game is in Alpha, and I’m just as surprised as you to hear that.
Gameplay
There’s no boundaries set (well, except the ones the map provides) in this team death-match game in which you out-blox your opponents. Join the six minute game as a randomized character—customization will be later implemented—and then fight. Cycle between weapons 1-10, in the order of Bazooka, Mob Gun, Roaster 3000, Mini-gun, Ice Thrower, Shotgun, Big Sword, Chicken Launcher, Katana, and most’s favorites, the Dub-step Gun. Their options will presumably not all be available later, however, as there is a grayed out option for “Loadout” in the main menu. Each weapon has a signature damage amount and death screen. For every action, such as a kill or assist, it will reward you with points, used to rank up.
Guide
This is the only map currently in ‘BLOXOUT.’ Use elevation and cover to your advantage.
Short-ranged Weapons
Shotgun is high-powered at short range and is either a two shot kill or one shot kill, making up for the range and accuracy, favored by me.
Big Sword has a high cool down, but makes up with its one hit kill.
Katana does not deal much damage but swings fast.
Mid-ranged Weapons
Roaster and Ice Thrower deal a consistent and nice amount of damage. They have special animations for a kill.
The Chicken Launcher and Bazooka have a large radius, but I can’t seem to find good damage in either of them. The Bazooka does have a bit of an advantage with higher range and more damage on a direct hit. Both weapons are good for reaching higher places with rocket jumping.
Long-ranged Weapons
These weapons aren’t as long as a sniper, which is not in the game, but have the longest ranges.
Mob Gun deals a good consistent amount of damage at all ranges.
Mini-gun has a higher fire rate than the mob gun in exchange for a charge up.
Dubstep Gun has a higher area of effect, more damage but less of a fire rate all with a massive charge up. It plays EDM while shooting.
Opinion
As said earlier, I’m surprised this game is only in the Alpha stage. I’m excited to see the outcome of this product, and I can’t wait for a revisit.
